Shaucha means “purification; cleanliness.” It includes a number of techniques for cleansing the body as well as the mind, and it has even been called the aim of the entire system of yoga. The sages say that shaucha is not only the foundation for bodily health, it is also the doorway to deeper and more tranquil states of meditation.

In order to practice self-purification, you may choose to tackle one aspect in particular and trial it for a while to fully embody the positive effect of such change.

Select wisely from the many choices of food, emotions, and thoughts waiting to come into your body and mind. As the body becomes purified you will experience radiant health; as the mind becomes purified you will feel increasingly clear, friendly, and cheerful.

A good example to start with is to drink more water everyday, let’s say 2L a day for 2 months and then let’s see if you can feel any changes. Once you have decided to take on a healthy challenge, then all you have to do is to take action.
