If you practice Yoga or Meditation then you probably have come across the term “Ego”. When I mention ego in my classes, I mean the state of mind that comes with thinking from the past or looking into the future.
Opinions, worries, anxiety, stress, depression (ie: I don’t deserve this, I doubt I’ll be able to be that good, what if I can’t get this result….).
All those thoughts that don’t have any purpose and don’t do us any good are the ego. It is what takes you away from right here, right now. The present moment is what matters.
I also often mention, when teaching, that you are not your thoughts and therefore by bringing awareness to them, you become in control.
Using the breath is the best tool I have found to keep me in the present moment.
Staying in the here and now is not an easy task as a lot of us have to plan things ahead but what is in your control right now?
